Things To Do In Playa Blanca Lanzarote – The volcanic landscape of Lanzarote is scattered with white villages, with sticky cactus and exotic palms, softened by a corner of golden beaches. Located on the coast of Africa, the climate of the Canary Islands is very pleasant throughout the year, which makes it very popular for winter sun. But look beyond the famous sites and you’ll find plenty to do in Lanzarote, from vineyards and volcano tours to the many cultural events created by architect Cesar Manrique.

Things To Do In Playa Blanca Lanzarote
With so many great places to visit in Lanzarote (read more than 30 I recommend!), you won’t have time to see them all, even with 7-10 days of vacation. So I’ve briefly listed the 5 things I do first, to get you started. We stayed at the center of Finca Malvasia on this trip.

The rugged landscape of Lanzarote is similar to the volcanic eruptions of the past, especially those of 1730-1736. In those six years, a third of the island was covered in mud and ash. The Timanfaya National Park was created in 1974, by extracting a piece of the satellite from the cold water and is one of the most famous things to see in Lanzarote.
There are many different things to do in the park, which is accessed from the road between Mancha Blanca and Yaiza. Since different places are spread along the way, you should visit the Timanfaya National Park by car or on tour.

At the end of the tour the guide creates a geyser and shows the heat of the volcano. You can also enter the El Diablo restaurant next door designed by Cesar Manrique where chicken and beef are grilled on an open barbeque, heated by underground water.
A little further along the main road to Mancha Blanca is the Timanfaya visitor center. It is free to visit and has a platform to view the volcanic rock park, with exhibits explaining the volcanic activity.
Or a camel base. Here you can ride a camel train and visit a small museum to learn how camels were used in the past. It costs €12 per camel for 2 people to ride for 20 minutes.
Visitors on a budget can drive the Mancha Blanca road to the Yaiza road through the park and look around the visitor center for free. If you don’t want to pay

The best way to learn more about the geography, flora and fauna of this area is with expert guides, at the 3 volcanoes that we bring with Eco-insider. If you want to visit it yourself, the following volcanoes have their own parking and hiking trails.

The La Geria region of Lanzarote is where you will find vineyards and wineries, to learn about the island’s unique viniculture and taste great wines. While the sweet wine of Malmsey in the Canary Islands was praised by Shakespeare, most of Lanzarote’s vineyards were planted after the 1730 eruptions, which covered the fertile land with volcanic ash. The Finca Malvasia vineyard, where we stayed, is set in a working vineyard in the heart of this region.

Doing a wine tour of a bodega is a fun thing to do in Lanzarote, with a company like Wine Tours Lanzarote or on your own by walking around the different wineries. The main fruit of Volcanica Malvasia makes a light white wine, but you can look for varieties such as Diego, Listan Negro and Moscatel that are used to make sweet desserts.

An Essential Guide To Lanzarote’s Resorts
It is easy to find wineries on the road between Monumento al Campesino and Uga, and all of them offer wine tasting as a small taste to try before you buy, or sell by the glass in their bar or restaurant. Large centers such as El Grifo or Bodegas Rubicon have a variety of wines and other things to see such as a wine museum or restaurant.
It is also very interesting to explore the inner streets to find small shops like the El Tablero winery that sells directly to the public or the small Volcan Vega that we saw on our Wine Tours Lanzarote. If you like walking, you can enjoy a guided tour of the vineyards of La Geria including wine tasting.

Some of the most beautiful beaches in Lanzarote are located around Playa de Papagayo in the south of the island, which offers an alternative to the busy areas. The beaches can be found from the main parking area of Playa Papagayo or by taking the side paths that lead to other beaches such as Playa Mujeres and Playa Caleta del Congrio.

The beaches of Los Ajaches are protected so that there is no development here. You must pay a small fee of €3 to bring your car to the storage area, payable at the entrance. Expect great views from the cliffs, beaches and clear waters for swimming, making these beaches a place to relax for a few hours.
Both beach restaurants are busy, so bring your own food and water if you plan to spend the day there. These beaches are also visited by yachts and boat tours in Puerto del Carmen, so this is another way to enjoy their beauty with a day of sailing and swimming.
Jameos del Agua cave is one of Lanzarote’s favorite places designed by Lanzarote’s most famous artist, Cesar Manrique. As you enter through the veins of bone, you pass a dark, confused pool, inhabited by tiny albino crabs, sitting like little stars below.
The road takes you to the sun, to a turquoise lake surrounded by palm trees and protected by a volcanic rock wall. There’s a 60’s vibe and you half expect to see Roger Moore or Sean Connery surrounded by bikini-clad Bond girls.

At the corner is an underground space used for concerts, which was built in the other part of the ship. Scattered around the site are many cafes and restaurants that offer special evening events with live music. Jameos del Agua is my top tip for instagrammers – it’s amazing and picturesque even though it was built long before Instagram was created!

Take a day trip to the island of La Graciosa, north of Lanzarote, for a weekend of cycling and swimming. The boat (book in advance here) takes about 30 minutes to Orzola and is part of the fun of the trip, when you see the sea birds and look at the Famara rock that falls from the Mirador del Rio. With only a few islands crossing the island and the main town of Caleta del Sebo, a trip to this idyllic island is like going back in time.
