Due Date Movie – Todd Phillips is taking a break from his big comedies this summer with a new Batman spin-off

Due Date Movie
Is no exception. While it did well in theaters, aided by Downey Jr.’s post-Iron Man star power, it scores less than 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. Some critics resented the film’s harsher comedic tone. Downey Jr. is less obnoxious than his sometimes downright obnoxious Tony Stark character. But the film also achieves an intensity that isn’t particularly evident in Phillips’ other works.
Due Date (blu Ray)
Strong architect Peter Highman (Downey) returns home from an Atlanta business trip to Los Angeles for the impending birth of his first child. Enter aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis), who boards the same flight as Highman and manages to remove the two from the plane. Unable to book another ticket, Highman is forced to take advantage of Tremblay’s cross-country ski offer, and as the pair hit the road, Tremblay’s pet pug in tow, he soon discovers, to his horror, that he has accepted a passage from hell. not only tests his mental well-being, but also pushes him to the physical limit. The odd couple/road movie scenario is hardly uncharted cinematic territory, but Philips still manages to successfully mine it for comedic material.
The race is on, albeit at a slower pace, as Downey Jr. has just days before his wife is due to give birth. This difference really works to the film’s advantage, as between the scenes where the actor fights Galifianakis, there is room for character development and time to breathe, here playing a variation on this slightly demented and offbeat character from his others. collaborations with the director. . The comedian is a real treat here, playing a slightly effeminate aspiring Hollywood starlet who combs her hair and smokes copious amounts of weed, claiming it’s due to a medical condition. His mere presence in the scene is enough to generate laughter, he doesn’t even have to open his mouth. The two actors have fantastic chemistry together, and Tremblay’s childlike worldview is in stark contrast to the contained anger and pent-up aggression that Highman tries to contain.
In one hilarious scene, Highman (finally living up to his name), completely consumed by secondhand smoke, fails to notice that Trembly has lined up at the Mexican entrance looking for gas, mistaking him for a Texaco. The escape sequence that follows highlights Phillips’ skill at capturing physical comedy on a grand scale. The film also benefits from a lively supporting cast that includes Danny McBride, Jamie Foxx and Juliette Lewis, whose annoying son finds himself taking the wrath of Downey Jr. in one of the film’s funniest and most genuinely shocking scenes.
He doesn’t reinvent the wheel of comedy, but the moments where he takes on a darker tone suggest why the director might end up being an inspired choice when he’s given the Joker.

Unashamedly derivative and only incidentally funny, Due Date fails to live up to the possibilities afforded by its talented director and wonderfully mismatched stars. Read reviews from critics

Peter Highman (Robert Downey Jr.) becomes a father for the first time when his wife gives birth in five days. He plans to fly home from Atlanta to attend the birth, but a chance encounter with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Zach Galifianakis) puts a wrench in his plans. Desperate to reach his wife before the baby is born, Peter’s sanity is tested when he must embark on a cross-country road trip with Ethan, who is transporting dogs. Director Todd Phillips strayed from his roots directing wildly erratic and at times… terrible “The Hangover” films when he directed 2019 Academy darling “Joker.” The 2010 raunchy comedy Due Date, with Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr., released between The Hangover and The Hangover Part II, is a testament to just how far he’s come.

“Due Date” is a throwaway comedy starring Downey Jr. as bland architect Peter Highman, who tries to put his wife on the no-fly list in advance for an early C-section when he meets struggling actor Ethan Tremblay. (Galifianakis) and a series of hijackings ensue. Highman finds no wallet or photo ID, but Tremblay offers to drive him to his home in Los Angeles, setting up the film buddy’s trip.
Perhaps the film’s greatest sin is that Downey Jr. isn’t fully utilized, but it’s important to note that back in 2010, when he was a big name, with the first two Iron Man films, Sherlock Holmes and Tropic Thunder. he still doesn’t have the greatest actor on the planet under his belt, with the first “Avengers” film still two years away. Downey Jr. gives the best performance in ‘Deadline’, and while the film is what it is – crazy, throwaway entertainment – it’s a shame to see it wasted.
Galifianakis is fine with that, but the novelty of his character—a misunderstood weirdo who gets into all kinds of shenanigans with a heart of gold—gets old pretty quickly. I can see why it was so popular when this movie came out, as the “LOL Random” humor was still very popular at the time, and some of the ridiculous scenarios Downey Jr.’s straight man puts in are worth a laugh . the character is more annoying than funny in 2020.
I have noticed some examples of good cinematography in this film and really, I think Phillips has always been capable of the creative cinematography that we have seen in ‘Joker’, he adds little to this film. “Due Date” is about as smart as your average Adam Sandler movie.
Due Date: Lillith Fair
If you remove the random, shocking humor from this film, there’s very little to like from a comedic perspective. If you’ve seen this movie before, a second viewing probably won’t do you any good, as the movie relies too much on taking the plot in weird directions. Once you know where the movie is going, there’s plenty more to enjoy.
‘Due Date’ is the ‘Best By’ comedy date in 2020. While it might elicit a few laughs upon first viewing, it would be best traded for an average production of Happy Madison. Or the original Hangover movie. Straight Man/Funny Man Downey Jr. and Cole Smithey’s Galifianakis Go Rogue After the runaway box office success of The Hangover, director Todd Phillips (The Old School) has stepped up his acting. comic feelings to burst out laughing even where it is not possible. In a conventional road picture format, Phillips draws powerfully on the refreshingly asymmetrical chemistry between Robert Downey Jr. and Zack Galifianakis.
In a role that Downey Jr. himself could have played perfectly in an earlier incarnation of his checkered film past, Galifianakis plays television actor Ethan Tremblay. A fictitious surname speaks volumes. Ethan is on his way to Hollywood to follow his dreams, an effeminate scarf-wearing misfit who might as well wear a sign around his neck that says “trouble ahead.” Taking medical marijuana on a commercial flight: check. With an annoying little dog named Sonny – check. Dead dad’s ashes in a coffee can – check.
Naturally, Ethan interrupts architect Peter Highman’s (Downey Jr.) flight plans from Atlanta to Los Angeles, where he’s supposed to arrive in time to give birth.
